Witches of the West (Coven & Retreat)

gathers in person at the Mendocino Woodlands, CA, during the summer solstice for a 5-day retreat, and then monthly on Zoom throughout the year.  We are a community rooted in the Dianic witchcraft tradition, blending *eco-feminist witchcraft with politics and spirit for personal and social transformation. The coven unites spiritual work with activism through practices like ecstatic dance, chanting, and consensus-based decision-making. Core principles include *eco-feminism, the seamless integration of spirit and politics, and a focus on both personal healing and social justice. Practitioners engage in magical practices, including public and private rituals, with a focus on empowering themselves and the community. These practices often use chants, songs, breathing, and dancing to raise power to heal themselves and heal the world. Witches of the West explicitly reclaim the word “witch” to represent divine feminine power, nature-based spirituality, healing, and pleasure.

Land Acknowledgment

We gather in the Mendocino Woodlands on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Pomo, Yuki, Cahto, and other Indigenous peoples, who have stewarded this land for generations. We honor their relationship with this land and recognize the history of injustice and the continuing impact of settler-colonialism, and we are committed to supporting Indigenous stewardship and sovereignty today.

Ecofeminism is a political theory and movement that links systemic oppression with the exploitation of the environment, arguing that oppressive systems are responsible for both. It holds that the devaluation of both the divine feminine and nature is rooted in similar systems of dominance, advocating for a more equitable and collaborative society that respects the interconnectedness of life.

This is our definition of eco-feminism, as we use the term. We believe that men, non-binary folks, and women experience oppression in any systems ruled by toxic masculinity and negative patriarchal forces. We work together to create spaces, laws, and a society that honors healthy masculine & divine feminine, promotes the fullest life, liberty, and happiness for all

When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.
